Entries are only accepted when payment has been received. Unrated players will be asked to give evidence of their playing strength or they may be moved to a higher section or withdrawn.

Rate of play

Each player will have 25 minutes plus a 5 second increment per move from move 1.

Rules

The FIDE Laws of Chess current at the time of the tournament will apply unless otherwise stated.

Disputes arising during play will be referred to the Tournament Controller whose decision will be final.

Mobile phones are allowed but must be switched off or set to silent during games. If a player's phone rings during play: 1st time – warning; 2nd time – default the game.

If a player makes an illegal move the opponent will be awarded an extra two minutes; a second instance will result in loss of the game.

Directions

By rail: The nearest mainline stations are Streatham and Streatham Hill. From Streatham station turn left and walk north along Streatham High Road (about 750m). From Streatham Hill station turn right and walk south along Streatham High Road (about 750m).

By bus/underground: Many buses serve Streatham High Road. Buses 50, 57, 60, 109, 118, 133, 159, 201, 249, 250, 255, 315, 319, 333, 417, G1 and P13 all stop within walking distance of the venue. Buses 109, 118, 133, 159, 250 and 333 go from Brixton tube. Buses 249 and 319 go from Tooting Bec tube.

By car: Streatham High Road is on the A23. Although it is not possible to park on Streatham High Road itself, there are free-of-charge parking spaces on the residential streets that adjoin it.

Access

The tournament venue is on the ground floor of Streatham Library where there is disabled access and toilets.

Refreshments

There are plenty of eating places, coffee shops and pubs close by, and also a Lidl and a Sainsbury’s Local. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available free of charge at the venue.

Ratings

The September ECF Rapidplay Rating List will be used to determine a player’s rating. For players who do not appear in the Rapidplay List, other lists may be used at the discretion of the organisers. Ungraded players must provide evidence for the organisers to assess their playing strength and any previous known grade must be declared. It is a condition of entry that players agree to their grading information being published on the ECF website.

ECF membership renewal

Entrants are reminded that ECF annual subscriptions expire on 31 August and may need renewing.

Pairings

Ten minutes after the start of each round, new pairings may be made for each player whose opponent has not arrived and for any player otherwise having a full-point bye. Absent players will be defaulted after 10 minutes.

Juniors

Juniors are welcome, but please note that parents/guardians are responsible for young people under the age of 15 at all times. The organisers are not able to act 'in loco parentis'.

Covid

Please follow government guidelines applicable at the time of the tournament. Stay away if you have tested positive for Covid or feel unwell - your entry fee will be returned provided you notify us before 08:00 on the morning of the tournament. Sanitiser and spare face masks will be available at the venue.
